Games & Recreational
Lowther Show is an annual open air show featuring rural pursuits, and is an opportunity for businesses with an interest in the rural and agricultural economy to showcase their products and services. Lowther show attracts thousands of visitors each year, mainly families and people with an interest in rural pursuits, field sports or those who live in or enjoy visiting the countryside.
The design should be clean and modern. Although the site should definitely show it's countryside roots, it should still feel up to date and modern. The website should inspire visitors to look forward to happy family fun weekends spent at an exciting and interesting activity.
Home page The home page must be able to immediately engage the visitor. It must look inviting and exciting without looking crowded or cheap. The main banner will focus on the Show highlights: Lowther Country Fair Lowther Hound Show Lowther Carriage Trials Lowther Trail Run Call to Actions will highlight routes to fulfill the 3 main tasks visitors will bring: What’s On - link to the What’s On section Who’s There - link to the Exhibitors section Book Now - link to the booking page Additional areas of focus include the Latest News which will show the extract of the latest content to be added to the site, a video player to play a specially commissioned video and a social media area which will display the latest social activity from across a number of networks. More Call to Actions will link to content on the main Countryman Fairs website allowing visitors to discover more about the world of field sports and country pursuits. A banner will display relevant advertising from selected organizations and a sub-footer will show logos from a range of sponsors. Example current page: http://www.countrymanfairs.co.uk/lowther-game-and-country-fair Responsive Home page The website will use Responsive Design techniques to resize and adapt to a variety of platforms. We would like to see a version of the Home page design which would work on a typical smart phone size (320px by 480px). From this we can create the other sizes required. Grid layout category page A grid layout showing the child pages or categories within a 3 across grid of images with captions. This is used for various sections including displays, events or activities that will be taking place over the weekend of the fair Example current page: http://www.countrymanfairs.co.uk/lowther-game-and-country-fair/whats-on List layout category page A list layout showing the child pages or categories in a list of extracts from 10 items with a pagination menu at the bottom Example current page: http://www.countrymanfairs.co.uk/lowther-game-and-country-fair/trade-stands Content page Typically a mixture of images (often 1 main image) and text relating to a single topic Example current page: http://www.countrymanfairs.co.uk/lowther-game-and-country-fair/whats-on/main-arena/1160-lowther-hound-show
What to avoid
Nothing garish or too busy. Avoid countryside clichés and do not focus on agriculture. This is a Game show not an agricultural show, no tractors or sheep.
Lowther Show is currently run by the Country Game Fair Event organiser Countryman Fairs. Currently details of all their Game Fairs are displayed on their corporate website at www.countrymanfairs.co.uk, but over the next 3 months each of the individual Country Game Fair sections will be migrated onto a website of it’s own. Each of these new websites will need to have it’s own design and identity, but will also follow a theme so that the layout and usability will be consistent across all of them. The winning designer from this contest will therefore be expected to provide additional designs for all 4 of the other shows: Kelmarsh Game and Country Fair Highclere Game and Country Fair Sussex Game and Country Fair Midland Game Fair These will be arranged through 99 Designs as 1-to-1 Invoices and the level of compensation will be agreed with the winning designer. It is not expected that all 5 designs be provided within this contest, only the designs for the Lowther Show website are required for this contest. The website will be created using Responsive Design techniques and so the winning designer will be expected to show an alternate design for handheld devices as well. It is not expected that every page should be designed for every break point. The existing brands associated with this website (Countryman Fairs and Lowther) both have online presences and strong brand qualities. Any designs which do not live up to the quality of either of these brands will be rejected. The Lowther Show logo must be used as supplied and should not in any way be changed.
