The contest holder for Grundy Burns had specifically asked me to enter in this contest, so I set out to win it. :) (I had been a close finalist in their previous contest, which they fast-tracked).
For this design, I hit on the globe from the start, but it went through about 25 different renovations. (I submitted 60 of 282 designs) The globe was obviously to show the international quality of the company; but I noticed many people were doing these ridiculously detailed versions of the globe with tiny islands the size of the Bahamas!
It's nice to have that much detail, if that's going on a billboard, but for a logo that's going on a website, 75% of those little islands wouldn't have shown up. I didn't want my client to run into that problem, so I kept my designs simple with clean text and a trustworthy color scheme.
