Games & Recreational
BitBums is an illustrated parody game that makes fun of cryptocurrency, clicker games and 4x empire management games. Previously, we've only been on the web but now we are designing our first app.
What's your vision?
We're looking for someone to design isometric buildings for our parody empire management game. We make BitBums a parody game that makes fun of cryptocurrency, clicker games, and 4 empire management games. We have a web game at www.bitbums.net and are currently building our first app. We want to base components similar on 'Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire' a mobile game for iOS and Android which can be found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.epicactiononline.ffxv.ane&hl=en_US We like the positioning of the isometric layout of the game (but are not copying the graphic style). The graphic style should be illustrated and follow our parody style that can be seen at www.bitbums.net We also have some of our assets (but not all) in a shared Google drive folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WtjfSbkg7z7myzLPDyV-nx_HNAGHR-5w?usp=sharing The style is an illustrative parody, and is based on a story where a tech nerd/cyberpunk sold their house and quit their job at the height of the Bitcoin market. They invested all the money in Bitcoin and then Bitcoin crashed. They now live under an underpass in a fictional city called 'BitCity' with a bunch of other crypto enthusiasts, where they are building their homeless Bitcoin utopia. Because we are a parody game we think of in-game elements the same way kids using their imaginations would - for example, the BitBums might build part of their city walls out of cardboard at level 1, and then the level 2 version of that is cardboard reinforced with duct tape, but, this somehow allows it to withstand siege engines. In the minds of the "BitBums" (the in-game characters) this is a real, fierce, and all outwar to be the Emperor of BitCity - but to our players, this is a makeshift city with a bunch of junk. We need an artist to create 1 Isometric buildings/tiles for the project. You can pick from any of the buildings below: 4 of these will be isometric buildings that are upgradable each with 3 levels (12 buildings in total). 4 of these will be tiles that are not upgradable. 1 of these will be a tile that is upgradable with 3 levels (3 total tile images) ****The winning artist will be asked to complete the other 8 buildings and tiles in 1-1 projects. These will be paid at a different, lower, rate. Please see the extra details sections and only apply to the contest if you are ok with that lower rate**** The specifics: Buildings: 1. Castle - A modest castle made out of cardboard or scraps. At each level of upgrade the cancel should get bigger, have more detail and look fancier (but still always be made of cardboard, or wood or other junk materials). The castle is our largest icon and will need to be designed at 1024x1024 so we can shrink it down at 4x. This is an isometric building on a square tile. 2. Wall/Gate - Just link in the FFXVANE app you'll need to provide a wall to go around our city, the wall should once again be made of cardboard or junk, and needs three levels of upgrade. It will likely need to be broken into multiple pieces of wall and gate as separate sprites so it can be added into the game. 3. University - This will be a medieval style university made of stone or brick with three levels of upgrade. It will need to be made at the 512x512 resolution so we can scale it down. This is an isometric building on a square tile. 4. Barracks - This will be a barracks made out of any material - it should still look like its thrown together from scrap. In the centre court yard we should see either training dummys made out of crash test dummies. It should have three levels of upgrade. It will be at the 512x512 resolution so we can scale it down. This is an isometric building on a square tile. Tiles: 1. Quarry - a 512x512 isometric tile, that is a quarry where people can mine for stone. This will look like a real medieval pit quarry (no modern technology) and it will not be made from junk. 2. Gold Mine - a 512x512 isometric tile, that is a mine shaft cave where we can see gold chunks. 3. Forest - a 512x512 forest of trees. 4. Field of Weight - a 512x512 tile of golden wheat on a farm. 5. City - a 1024x1024 tile of a city. This will be the players Kingdom. Just like in the screenshots from FFXVANE as the player levels up the kingdom becomes more detailed. The first version should look like it is mostly under construction with scaffolding made of sticks, a small cardboard castle and a flimsy outer wall. The middle upgrade should be a completed cardboard fortress, and then the final version can be a super lavish over the top cardboard castle with medieval palisade, a moat and any other creative element you can thinking of.
This contest requires you to make (1) one of the buildings listed and show it at all resolutions and levels of upgrade. If you win, you will be expected to complete the other buildings in a 1-to-1 project here on 99designs. Please only enter if you are interested in the on-going work. We are overpaying for this first graphic in order to onboard a designer, and because we expect good effort and detail put in at the first round. Future buildings in 1-1 work would be paid at a rate of $45 - $120/per building depending on quality of work, level of detail, turn around-time and seniority of artist. ***You should only enter the contest if you are willing to continue to do 1-1 project work at the above mentioned rate***
