Gschaeffer got their new app design by running a design contest:
Create a beautiful, simple, and fun app design!
Check out Gschaeffer's App design contest…
A very simple app to record visitors to our office. The app will replace a manual process of using a PC, scanner, and software applications to scan a visitors ID card and then email the captured image. The app will capture the ID card image using the iPad camera, optionally record user entered data details, and then email the image on submit.
- Convey a sense of security (think of a bank vault) through images and colors. - Friendly, non-threatening, easy to use; encourage visitors to participate. - No dingy or dull colors. - The audience is truck drivers, delivery people, etc., a very non-technical audience so usability and friendly appeal is important - The app may be used in portrait or landscape mode.
There is 1 primary screen that the user will use. A very rough sketch-up is attached to illustrate features/functions, however we are in no way attached to the layout & design. The app will be used as: Scenario: User records visitor Goal: Create a log record of a visit Pre-condition: App is running on iPad Basic Course: 1. User places ID card in card holder of iPad stand 2. User selects camera button to take the picture a. Application displays the picture in the image view area; app displays dialog of ‘Accept’ or ‘Cancel’ 3. User selects ‘Accept’; app leaves the picture in place 4. User enters data in the form fields 5. User selects the ‘Submit’ command a. App performs submit processing and clears the image & form in preparation for the next visitor. 6. Process complete Alternate Course, Step 3: A. User selects ‘Cancel’: app moves to ‘Basic Course’ step 5.a. The app would normally present 2 screens to the user being: - a splash page (based on main page design) - main app screen (sketch-up provided).
What to avoid
- No dingy or dull colors. - Custom form controls should be avoided to reduce development effort - Complexity
