dias.rafael got their new app design by running a design contest:
Clean and Elegant Beauty Android App Design
Check out dias.rafael's App design contest…
Cosmetics & Beauty
Urban Nail is a mobile app for the modern woman interested in take care of her beauty without sacrificing convenience. Within the app, she'll find friends sharing pictures and informations about their recents nail design experiences: beauty salons, professionals, nail polish brands, techniques, etc. Therefore, she'll be able to inspire herself, be aware of the last trends, share her own experiences and discover new professionals to hire in one single feed.
The design should be modern, clean and elegant, privileging content. There must be enough paddings/margins for the eyes "breathe". It's an Android app, so it shouldn't look like an Iphone app. Please, read Material Design (https://material.google.com) and Android design patterns (https://developer.android.com/design/patterns/index.html).
#1 - Login/Registration Screen The main screen should show the app name and a button to login with Facebook account. Bellow, there will be a "Registration for professionals" button/link. #2 - Main Screen (Feed): The Main Screen should contain the nails pictures feed. The most important informations for each photo are: which user hired and which was hired for that job. You're free to structure the information as you feel better: two avatars/usernames side by side; one above the photo, other bellow, etc. But consider the possibility of the professional or the client do not have an account (never both, after all, one of them posted it). So, how should we deal with this lack of information? Other fields that could be on each photo are: timestamp (e.g., 1 minute ago), likes and comments count. Each photo could also contain that 3 dots upper right menu (like Instagram). Separated from the feed, there will be a way (floating button?) for the user post a brand new photo. There will be 2 tab selectors on the top: Feed and Near Me. You should use icons to represent the section names. #3 - Details Screen: Clicking on a specific photo, the user will see more details, in addition to the photo itself: avatar/username from the client, avatar/username of the professional (alongside with the distance from the current user, and the next time available for schedule), timestamp, geographical location (opens a map when clicked), text description, polish brand used, hashtags (performs a search when clicked), likes count and comments. (the fields can be arranged in the order that make more sense to you). The primary action of this screen is to like the photo. (Floating action button?) There will be 3 secondary actions on this screen: give a like, post a new comment and share the picture on Whatsapp, Facebook, Email, etc. #4 - Professional Profile Screen: Clicking on an avatar/username of a professional, the user will see her profile screen. Here, besides avatar/username in a greater role, there will be thumbnails of her most recent jobs (with a button to see all), average rating (5 stars), number of followers and distance from the current user. The primary action of this screen is a schedule button. The secondary action is to follow the user.
What to avoid
I don't want to discourage the use of pink color, hearts or flowers, but it may easily looks like a cliché. So, feel free to use typical "female" elements, but be creative. On the other hand, "clean" doesn't means a colorless app. It's possible (and important) to use colors in interesting ways.
