Beauty from the Deep Blue Sea
Cosmetics & Beauty
COMPANY: Oceanica Skincare is a new luxury skincare brand that bridges both the luxury and indie space. It was born in Hawaii. Founder Jacci, a Marine Biologist/beauty junkie turned cosmetic chemist teamed up with long time friend Laura, a Maritimer and world traveler, to develop an ocean-based natural skin care line using marine algae, nutrients and sea kelp bio-ferment to target aging and sun soaked skin. Products include: cleanser, toner and face cream, oils and scrubs. TARGET AUDIENCE: Women aged 34-54. Cultured, well traveled, global citizen and luxury seeker - an upgraded hippy. Exercises, eats right, wants to keep the beautiful skin she had while on vacation in Bali, Sardinia, Madagascar… Loves the ocean and its mysteries, loves being in and near the ocean, inspired by the ocean. "She dreams of the ocean late at night and longs for the wild salt air."
We’d like a female face with sea kelp hair. Maybe contained within a medallion or round shape. The round shape could represent the “O” in Oceanica. Not exactly a siren of the sea because although they are beautiful and strong, they are dangerous and they kill men. Not a simplistic mermaid like Starbucks. Not a mermaid for children. Not like Wella or Princess Cruises logos. More sophisticated. We like Versace’s Medusa logo but more feminine. More goddess. We’d like her to look like fine art, perhaps even slightly abstract. You need to be good at illustration. It might be interesting to apply rough edges instead of using expected smooth lines. Face-on or profile view - try both. Ethnicity - a touch of south pacific islander, fuller lips. But she must represent all women. She must invoke emotion. A sense of freedom. She must exude strength and beauty with a hint of the wild, untameable. Must look good as solid black on white. Must look good as embossed on a round white plastic sealing disc (for face cream jar). Must look good in full colour. (medium blue/teal/turquoise) Must look good in silver foil. For the font, we're leaning towards serif because it has a luxury feel to it, but sans serif might work too. If the addition of the word "SKINCARE" makes the logo too busy, you can just use OCEANICA. The tagline "Beauty from the Deep Blue Sea" is optional. Try with and without. ATTACHMENTS: 1. Rough sketch of face - initial rough idea 2. Photo of sea kelp forest. This is how the sea kelp looks underwater. Notice it's beautiful lines. 3. Gold kelp on black background shows you the organic shapes of kelp. 4. "She Dreams of the Ocean late at night and longs for the wild salt air" is the most wonderful quote and it represents our target customer and vibe perfectly. The colours are great and her wild hair is similar to what we'd like, but we'd like it to look more like sea kelp. Font is OK, but not luxurious enough.
