Gbullett got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create the next logo for Technician Apprenticeship Consortium
Check out Gbullett's Logo design contest…
The purpose of the Technician Apprenticeship Consortium: • Bring together engineering consultancy firms to enable them to meet their business needs through the recruitment and training of technician apprentices • Ensure that there is a valued work based route to professional status for aspiring engineers including those who are currently under-represented within the sector such as females, ethnic minorities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. • Increase the numbers of young people taking up this route and the number of companies appreciating the benefits it brings and so committing to providing technician apprenticeship places • Broaden the availability across a range of engineering disciplines through using the common base of the Engineering Council UK-SPEC to compile a suite of linked qualifications working with sector skills councils, professional institutions and awarding bodies. Achievements From a standing start in March 2010 the position in 2013 is: • Advanced Technician Apprenticeship Frameworks are available in Civil and Building Services Engineering based on UKSPEC requirements for EngTech. • An Advanced Technician Apprenticeship framework linked to Eng Tech being developed for Transport Planning Engineers with the support of Transport for London, the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation and the Transport Planning Society. • Eighteen companies who are members of the national group with a total of over thirty companies involved across the regions where membership is only open to those prepared to recruit an apprentice (from 6 in London in 2010) • The employer led consortium approach replicated in Leeds, Manchester & Liverpool, the West Midlands Southampton and Bristol. 40 apprentices started courses across the English regions in September 2011 with a further 140 starting in September 2012. Estimates for September 2013 are in excess of 200. There were a large number of applications for the available posts requiring a minimum of 5 GCSEs Grades A-C including Maths (grade B), English and a Science subject. • Ten colleges who are members of a network. Most are already delivering the apprenticeship programme with the rest starting in September 2013. A Service Level Agreement in place which sets out the roles and responsibilities of the colleges, companies and professional institutions. • In December 2010, the consortium won the Mayor of London’s Responsible Procurement Skills and Employment Award in recognition of the innovative and employer led nature of the programme and in December 2011, the consortium won the Training Journal Apprenticeship Programme of the Year Award against some stiff competition from across all business sectors. The Challenges Whilst the Technical Apprenticeship Consortium is an established body of professional members, our primary target audience are students who would be interested in becoming civil engineers and completing an NVQ training session over a period of 3 years on a day release programme whilst being employed by one of the consortium members on a full term contact. Design mandatories This falls into 2 categories; 1) The joint logo with ace, this is to be used on the website and any joint literature As part of the TAC logo there needs to be included supported by ACE. The ACE logo has to conform to their brand guidelines but there is currently NO logo or brand for the Technician Apprenticeship Consortium, which has locally been referred to as TAC. A new image is required using these 3 letters in a fresh new format, that is eye catching and reflective of civil engineering. This logo should either compliment or contract against the ACE logo, but does not have to be the same pantone. This logo has the potential to be used on pop up banners, events, college prospectus leaflets and external marketing literature. The ACE identity which needs to be maintained are: • The logotype (ACE) consists of specially drawn, contemporary letter forms • The two curves – which symbolise structures above and below the ground, creating an inclusive simplicity The corporate strapline “consultancy engineering business environment should not be included as a component of the logo for this design 2) There is a need for a TAC logo on its own, extracted from the 1st half of the requirement above. This logo would be used on TAC letters/memos/agendas and minutes by Consortium members for internal correspondence. Target Audience • The general age range of the audience would be aspiring engineers aged 16 – 25 years, including those who are currently under-represented within the sector such as females, ethnic minorities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds
