We are a retail 3D Printing service opening our first retail location this summer, with the goal of expanding accessibility to, and knowledge of, 3D printing. While our target audience is educated and may have a passing interest in design, we want to bring this technology to as many people as possible, so our logo and appearance must be convey our openness and tech-wavy to potential customers. We believe that just as people used to go to the blacksmith to have something made, soon again will they go to a ThingSmith
Logo types to explore
We do not want anything derivative of a cube. It's far too typical in our industry. Our manufacturing process involves laying layers down, and some of our machines use lasers. A play off of this or a blacksmith in some form may be appropriate (anvil, hammer, etc). A logo that is representative of the manufacturing process of putting layers down bit by bit would be appropriate. I've been a fan of the logo for the documentary "Objectified" - something along these lines could be really appealing, though I worry about shamelessly ripping their idea off. Having our logo be 3D in some aspect could be a plus.
