benpowles got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Constuction industry logo incorporating future use of AI in the business.

About the business The company name is buildingestimates.com. We take house plans and turn them into estimates of housing costs to the building industry. At the moment that is done in a very manual way, and is expensive and time consuming. We are going to build artificial intelligence software to automate this process so we will be able to do it cost effectively and very fast, plus do a lot of things that are hard for people to do - like find missing or inconsistent information. We are going to initially start selling estimating services without much AI - just using similar manual processes that is currently in the market, and then move to use AI more and more. So, initially the website shouldn’t look too ‘techie’ or futuristic. We will talk about technology in a general way though. Target customers Target customers are suppliers of products to builders (such as timber suppliers/ steel suppliers), architects, builders themselves, and maybe eventually people looking to have a house built, who would pay to understand the costs involved. These people are likely to be turned off by something that is too flashy or gimmicky.
The brand logo will go on a website, pitch decks, sales materials, banners at conferences, business cards, etc. It must not look complicated or hard to read. Think about how you break up the words and if you use capitals. People need to be able to separately read the words instantly and easily. If you want to break the positioning of the words up (e.g. one at the top, other just below, or other creative angles), that is OK. The ".Com" or ".com" needs to be part of the logo. It can't just only have Building Estimates or BuildingEstimates. It would be quite good to have the company name in full caps as the logo (as long as it didn’t look like we were shouting at people….) We could have an icon or small image added to the logo, but it is optional. If we were going to do an image it would be best to incorporate a computer or something else modern and technical eg string of data/ circuit board (kind of like some of these (some are really bad though!). Thoughts on our website (I realise this is just a logo competition, but this might still be useful, and we are going to get a website build based on the logo.) Other websites offering similar services currently include: https://ezequote.net.au/estimating-services/ - not very good - too corporate and stock image like https://www.estim8.com.au/ very basic and quite ugly https://takeoffs.io/ - this is more similar to what we will offer and website is nice and quite minimalist. It is actually quite similar to https://www.clarifai.com/ which is an AI website. We want to be a cool, modern alternative and look slick and professional for building estimate services - a look that is smart and tech enough that we can talk about AI on the website in the future without it looking strange. But we also need to be trustworthy and not ‘bleeding edge’. Some ideas include using famous architecture styles as the basis for the design like Bauhaus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bauhaus) (has lots of related fonts - see https://www.google.com/search?q=bauhaus+fonts&client=firefox-b-d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjM4OX-uvrlAhVY4HMBHU78Ci8Q_AUoAXoECBIQAw&biw=1920&bih=966) or Modernist (eg fonts https://www.google.com/search?q=modernist+architecture+fonts&client=firefox-b-d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjXiJ_fu_rlAhXK6nMBHQk0CxEQ_AUoAXoECA8QAw&biw=1920&bih=966). Sorry for the ugly links! For colours - blue is good, but not a white background with blue text - rather blue background with white text (and other colours). A variety of different types of blues can look good. I’ve attached some website that we like the look/ feel of. Thanks for your time!
