Story to tell in the infographic
We are looking for an infographic to be designed that represents the main results of a survey we undertook looking at the relationship between a gambler’s preferred casino game and lifestyle factors contributing to their health. We are not looking for a casino or gambling theme or an outright health theme, more of a well-designed generic infographic containing elements (icons, graphics) of gambling and health. For example, you may wish to include a pie chart that looks like a roulette wheel as well as dice and poker chips, or a bar graph that looks like a cigarette or beer glass. We think those types of elements would look great. To get an idea of what we want please see the following infographics: • http://www.hartman-group.com/img/hartbeat/Obesity-in-America-Infographic.png (would like similar theme to this and silhouettes like the ones featured at the bottom to show what different BMIs look like) • http://kosamablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Infographics-Obesity-in-America1.jpg (also like the style of this infographic) • http://99designs.co.uk/infographic-design/contests/year-anniversary-martyn-gerrard-401606/entries/38985179 (like the format and clear direction of this infographic) • http://www.designbysoap.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Prescription-Drugs-Infographic.jpg (this is a good example of an infographic with a neutral theme but it contains theme-specific elements; in this case prescription drugs).
Data to include in the infographic
We want to include the main results from our survey in the infographic, along with national averages (see attached report and survey data). We want the following data visually represented. Primarily you may wish to use percentages but in some cases, you may also wish to use fractions (1 out of 6 etc). Whatever has the most impact. 1. [Title] Body Mass Index (BMI): We calculated the average BMI of casino players, categorising them into their preferred games.[Show average BMIs of each group of casino game player (this should be the main focus and largest graph in the infographic.)] 2. [Title] Smoking: We asked ‘Do you smoke regularly?’[Show % of regular smokers across different casino games] 3. [Title] Alcohol: We asked ‘Do you normally drink more than 21 units of alcohol per week?’ [Show % of people who drink more than 21 units of alcohol per week across different casino games]. 4. [Title] Exercise: We asked: ‘Do you normally engage in at least 30 minutes of physical activity, 5 times per week?’[Show % of people who meet government guidelines for physical activity across different casino games]. 5. [Title] Location: Where are casino games played? [Results showing breakdown of where respondents played (land-based casino, desktop, mobile/tablet)] 6. Some information about types of obesity related diseases 7. A visual BMI guide similar to the one used here(at bottom): http://www.hartman-group.com/img/hartbeat/Obesity-in-America-Infographic.png
Elements to include in the infographic
Most of these have been covered in the previous sections of this brief. We would like a mixture of graphical representations of our results. The elements of the infographic do not necessarily have to match the figures in the report. E.g. The visual representation of average BMIs across different casino players does not have to be a bar graph as it is in Figure 1. of the report. The title should be 6. 'Booze, Bets and BMI: Health and lifestyle trends based on casino game preference'. The footer of the infographic should mention it is based on a survey by Jackpot.co.uk with a brief description of the Jackpot website (see ‘About Jackpot.co.uk’ section at end of the report) and the site’s logo should also be included (see attached).
The infographic should be a vertical layout to make it narrative driven. The results summary should include all of the data we want in the infographic. However, more detailed data can be found in the raw data if this is needed. A summary of the key data can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uMlLBseia1PcvAFEhpUAEyaFdszZiVB7SxexWpwMjUE/edit?usp=sharing The raw data for the report can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1k6ZWF2ArNpXEr9f7ttUKmkEzd8FVqyo-URhvWU0fmYc/edit?usp=sharing The report and Jackpot logo are attached.
