What's your vision?
For the front cover: Book's title: Already Won Book's subtitle: From Serving My Country and Overcoming Cancer to Living a Vibrant Life Author: Colonel Deanna Won, U.S. Air Force (Ret.) Foreword: Foreword by Brian R. Clement, PhD, NMD, LN Publisher: Keynotes to Life Publishing [so for the spine, you can create something like "KTL" on top of "Keynotes to Life Publishing"] - I would like to have part of the background showing a vague, somewhat subdued suggestion of the U.S. flag, where it has a kind of artistic or dreamy look. - I would like to have a photograph of myself on the cover since this is my memoir. I have uploaded some potential photos that can be used. Perhaps one or more of the photos can be used. If more than one are used, one possible suggestion would be to make the military one more faded, and the civilian one could be somehow superimposed on top of, but not completely covering the military one. The idea in this case would be to convey a transformation from my military life to my new, vibrant life. - I would also like to have a banner caption that says "Never Give Up!" or the "The Victory of Never Giving Up!" The following details may or may not be incorporated into the design as it is just provided for background: - My background in the military: I was a physicist in the Air Force. While I specialized in electro-optics and lasers, I also have experience in launching satellites, missile defense, chemical, nuclear, and biological defense, NATO operations, and international cooperative research and development. - My personal background: I've been playing the piano since I was 3 years old. Growing up, I wanted to be a gymnast, ballerina, or pianist, but was told that I could not make a living like that so that is how I ended up as a physicist in the Air Force. However, I am still very passionate about music, dance, and the arts. I am also into photography. The main message of the book: One of the most important lessons I learned is the ability to receive love. Because of the miraculous nature of my healing, I know that God was showing me His incredible unconditional love, which I was finally able to receive and which I believe helped me to heal out of hospice, when I was given only one month to live. I think it's easier for people to give love than to receive love. However, you can't give that which you don't have, so it's important to be able to first receive love. Other lessons from my healing journey: I learned to let go of 3 things: 1) My career - I was not aware, but my career in the military had become my identity and even when I was dying, I kept trying to serve, despite my general telling me to take care of myself. I learned the hard way that life is bigger than your job. 2) My way of thinking - As someone who is analytical, I thought I could figure out how to use nutrition to heal from cancer. It was working in the beginning, but when I continued to work and travel for my job, the stresses became too much, and that is how my lungs collapsed and filled with fluid, necessitating me to be admitted into hospice and put on oxygen. At some point, I realized that I couldn't figure it all out and that I had to yield to a higher power, which is God for me. That was the turning point for my healing. 3) Life itself - I had to learn to completely let go of everything as I realized how little I could actually control. I needed peace as I wanted the medical doctors to try one last attempt at saving my life. In order to have this peace, I had to learn to let go of life itself, and God, graciously and miraculously, gave it back to me so that I can now share this message of hope with others. Final notes: Please feel free to be creative...I am looking for something that is professional looking, yet is unique that would make someone want to read my book because, ultimately, it has a message of hope for anyone that is dealing with cancer, some other chronic or life-threatening health condition, or any difficult life challenge. For additional information: - Website: www.deannawon.com - Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/deanna.won - LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deannawon Dimensions: 6" x 9" for paperback and hardcopy books I would also like to have additional submissions for the right dimensions for ebook and Kindle covers. Thank you!
Once I select the finalists, I would also like to work with them on my back cover design. So it will be good to have some placeholders for: - An attention-getting headline - 1-3 paragraphs of text to describe the book - 4-6 bullet points on the key features or benefits of the book for my readers - 2-3 endorsements In case you feel like including my logo, which you can see on my website, here are the color codes: #00647D #053642 #B38529 #D4AB59. Thank you!
