Dan John

Dan John has spent his life with one foot in the world of lifting and throwing, and the other foot in academia. An All-American discus thrower, Dan has also competed at the highest levels of Olympic lifting, Highland Games and the Weight Pentathlon, an event in which he holds the American record. Dan spends his work life blending weekly workshops and lectures with full-time writing, and is also a religious studies instructor for Columbia College of Missouri. As a Fulbright Scholar, he toured the Middle East exploring the foundations of religious education systems. Moreover, he continues as a Senior Lecturer at St. Mary's University in Twickenham, England. His books on weightlifting include Before We Go, Can You Go?, Intervention, Never Let Go, Fat Loss Happens on Monday with Josh Hillis, Mass Made Simple, Hardstyle Kettlebell Challenge, 40 Years with a Whistle and Easy Strength, written with Pavel Tsatsouline, as well as the short piece, From Dad to Grad.

The opening chapter of the book is simply this: “For the next forty workouts, pick five lifts. Do them every workout. Never miss a rep, in fact, never even get close to struggling. Go as light as you need to go and don’t go over ten reps for any of the movements. It is going to seem easy. When the weights feel light, simply add more weight.” Pavel Tsatsouline I did this exactly as written. It worked. I then spent the next few decades explaining these six sentences to people. Okay, the book is an attempt to organize all the insights from my experience, and other coaches, about training a bit more often, keeping things together, and focusing on "Little and Often over the Long Haul." Besides elite athletic performance, ES helps with fat loss and keeping old age at bay. It's a simple concept that many people find brings them "back into shape" so easily that, well, "It's so easy I stopped doing it!" It's a training system that demands a clear focus on long-term goals, including two decades from now, two years, two months, today and tomorrow.

Males 20-50 that are interested in strength training and building strength in a mature way. Not the beach body crowd. More the people that want long-term functional strength that will serve them throughout life.

We are looking for a design that will market well and convey the value of strength training. Dan has written many books in the past and all can be seen on Amazon, but none have sold really well, so we are trying something new. We are open to any suggestions.

We do not want male bodybuilders on the cover. Dan would prefer illustrations or something much less obvious if people are included.
